CODE OF CONDUCT

All event participants agree to abide by the Australian Lawyers Alliance’s Code of Conduct and supplementary Events Code on Conduct. The Code of Conduct can be viewed here.

 

CONFERENCES: TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Cancellations received 6 weeks before the conference date will be refunded in full and no refunds after this date. Substitutions are allowed up to 48 hours prior to the commencement of the conference and all requests must be made in writing. Registrations close 5 working days prior to the commencement of the event. 
All payments for registration, accommodation, activities and any applicable membership fees must be made prior to the commencement of the conference. We reserve the right to cancel some or all of your booking if payment is not received.

By registering for this event you agree to conduct yourself in a professional, respectful manner, avoiding any behaviour that could be considered discriminatory, harassing, or harmful. Misconduct may result in removal from the event without refund.

The Australian Lawyers Alliance reserves the right to alter any published program. The right is reserved to cancel or change itineraries or substitute services without notice. In most instances, comprehensive papers are provided by the speakers, however, the Australian Lawyers Alliance is unable to take responsibility for papers not provided. The Australian Lawyers Alliance assumes no liability whatsoever for injury, damage, loss, accident or delay to persons or property other than to the minimum extent required by law. In view of statutory or contractual limitations that may apply to personal injury or property damage and loss, the purchase of accident, baggage & travel insurance is strongly recommended.

By registering for this event, you consent to the possibility of having your photo taken during the event for future marketing and promotional purposes.

The ALA manages your personal information in accordance with our responsibilities under the relevant laws. All attendee contact details will be provided to event partners for one post-event email.

Accommodation

InHouse Event Solutions has been appointed as the official accommodation booking agent for all 2-day conferences (including Queensland Conference (February), Victoria Conference (May) and National Conference (October). A valid credit card is required to secure your booking when selecting accommodation in the ALA registration portal, you will not be charged immediately. Payment for accommodation is separate to the conference payment and will be charged by the Hotel and not ALA or InHouse Event Solutions 14 days prior to check-in. Free accommodation cancellation until one month prior to the conference. If you wish to cancel your accommodation outside the cancellation period, InHouse Event Solutions will endeavour to sell the room to another ALA delegate. However, if InHouse Event Solutions is unable to reallocate it, you will be subject to 100% of the accommodation rate. 'No-shows' will also be subject to 100% of the accommodation rate.

Accommodation charges are ‘bed and breakfast’ and include breakfast for either one or two people depending on the room type you select in the registration portal. Upon check-in, a credit card will be required for a $100 hold. You will be required to settle your own account with the hotel, in terms of any incidental expenses (non-pre-paid breakfast, bar purchases, etc).

 

SEMINARS AND SOCIAL FUNCTIONS: TERMS & CONDITIONS

Cancellations with a refund are accepted until 10 working days prior to the event. No refunds available after this time as all charges are pre-paid to venues and suppliers. Substitutions are allowed 48 hours prior to the event and requests must be made in writing to [email protected].

PAYMENT OPTIONS

A tax invoice will be automatically sent to you at the time of registration. All registrations are payable by credit card and bank transfer. Full payment is required within 14 days of registration and if the member early bird rate has been applied full payment must be received prior to the early bird close date.

 

ALA EVENTS CODE OF CONDUCT

The Australian Lawyers Alliance (ALA) is committed to providing a safe, productive, and welcoming environment for all event participants and staff. All participants, including, but not limited to, attendees, speakers, volunteers, exhibitors, sponsors, staff, and service providers, are expected to comply with this policy.

It applies to all ALA events, including seminars, social events and conferences.

ALA does not tolerate any form of discrimination or harassment, including but not limited to sexual harassment. In response to any incident of unacceptable behaviour, ALA reserves the right to take any action deemed necessary and appropriate, including immediate removal from the event without refund and the right to prohibit attendance at any future event.

Examples of Unacceptable Behaviour

  • Harassment, intimidation, or discrimination
  • Physical or verbal abuse
  • Verbal comments related to gender, age, pregnancy, marital status, sexual orientation, disability, personal appearance, race, religion, or national origin
  • Inappropriate use of nudity and/or sexual images in public spaces or in presentations
  • Harassing, threatening or stalking
  • Unwanted touching, unwanted remarks of a sexual nature, unwelcome comments about someone’s body or personal appearance, and unwelcome attention.

Responsible Drinking

At ALA events, where both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages are served, participants who choose to drink alcoholic beverages are expected to drink responsibly. ALA and hotel or venue event staff have the right to deny service to attendees for any reason and may require an attendee to leave the event.

Personal Safety and Security

ALA is committed to providing a safe and secure environment at its meetings and events by working with venue staff to make sure meeting participants are safe. We ask that all attendees report any questionable or concerning activity to ALA or convention, hotel or venue event staff.

This Event Code of Conduct supplements the ALA’s Code of Conduct (By-Law 4) and the ALA Event Terms and Conditions.
